COVID-19 Safety Measures

We will continue to implement safety measures this school year.  Desks in classrooms will be set up with desks in rows distanced three feet apart, with teacher tables and independent work stations for instruction.  Students will be provided individualized learning kits, including, but not limited to:  writing utensils, calculators, headphones, scissors, glue sticks, manipulatives to avoid communal use of supplies and school resources.   When possible, clearly labeled pathways for classroom movement and/or desk positioning will be used.

At CPES, each grade level will be departmentalized with the exception of Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten.

Special Considerations:

  • Water fountains -  Water fountains cannot be used for direct consumption

    • Hallway water fountains will be excluded from active service

    • At the elementary level, students may access water fountains within the classroom by filling up dixie cups and/or water bottles, with the support of an adult when possible

  • Lockers

    • Any lockers/cubbies to be used will be assigned

    • Valuables and/or items that do not directly relate to a student’s learning should not be brought to school (toys, tablets, legos, etc.)

  • Food consumption/meals

    • Lunch will be served in the cafeteria

    • Students will eat at desks spaced three feet apart

    • Breakfast will be served in the classroom

  • Playgrounds

    • We will return to the use of our playgrounds and outdoor areas for recess/physical education

  • Shared objects

    • Sharing of items that are difficult to clean will be discouraged

    • To minimize sharing, students will be given a learning kit to support their daily learning (i.e. scissors, glue sticks, headphones, writing utensils)

  • Specials

    • At this time, we will host specials for students in the gymnasium, library, art room and music room

  • Visitors

    • Visitors will be seen by appointment only, and must wear a mask at all times

New Traffic Pattern

Please observe the new traffic pattern signage.  There is a one way flow of traffic into the school parking lot and outer bus loop.  Vehicles should exit using the outer bus loop at the stop sign.

Arrival to CPES

Students who are dropped off by car, walk or bike should arrive at school NO EARLIER THAN 8:25 AM.  If you are dropping your child off, the system to do so is “STOP, DROP, and GO.”   Families who wish to walk their child to the front playground must park on the street.  The outer loop (closest to the street) will be open to car traffic for drop-off.  Only buses are allowed in the inner loop (closet to the playground).

Dismissal from CPES

Bus dismissal begins at 2:50 PM, followed by walkers/pick ups at approximately at 3:00 PM.  The outer loop (closest to the street) will be open to car traffic for pick-up.  Please park on the left side along the full length of the curb first.  Prior to the arrival of all buses, the inner loop (closest to the playgrounds) will remain closed.  After all buses have departed the inner loop may be opened to allow for additional student pick-up.  Please do not use the inner bus loop unless you are directed to do so by dismissal staff.

CPES Student Entrance/Exit

Students in grades PreK-2 will enter/exit on the ground level via the playground corridor. Students in grades 3-6 will enter/exit via the Main Office. (See photo below)

Masks and Spacing

Personal protection from COVID-19, the novel coronavirus, includes the appropriate wearing of cloth face masks by students and anyone accessing the school buildings, buses, and grounds. Studies have shown that wearing masks can significantly increase protections from spreading the disease. Students and staff will be required to wear a mask at all times, unless specifically provided a “mask break or meal break” at the direction and discretion of the instructor.  Students must also wear masks when riding the school bus.

Pool Testing/COVID Safety Testing

NAPS will continue to offer COVID screening tests at school.  More information will be shared via the Superintendent’s Office.

Disinfection protocols

Daily, routine cleaning of frequently touched surfaces will transpire each day to maintain a healthy teaching, learning and work environment (i.e. high touch surfaces and electronic devices).  Classroom toys, games, and other items that cannot be easily cleaned will be stored.

Feeling Sick?

Any student or staff who does not feel well should not come to school.  Please call the main office at 662-3250 to report your child absent.

More information will be shared with families during the first week of school by classroom teachers.  If you have a question, please contact us at 413-662-3250.  We look forward to working with your child and family this school year.
